Climb High Sleep Low

Classic “climb high, sleep low.” Pause at Lava Tower for lunch, then descend to the beautiful Barranco Valley.

Barranco Wall Scramble

Scramble the iconic Barranco Wall (non-technical) for soaring views, then traverse valleys to Karanga for rest.

Base Camp Prep

Cross the alpine desert to Barafu Base Camp. Early dinner and sleep — your summit push begins near midnight.

Summit Push

Begin at midnight via Stella Point for a golden sunrise over Africa. Celebrate at Uhuru Peak, descend to Barafu for brunch, then continue down to Mweka Camp.

Victory Descent

Final descent through the rainforest to Mweka Gate. Receive certificates and transfer back to Moshi for a hot shower and celebration dinner.

Acclimatization & Safety

  • Pace: “Pole pole” — slow, steady hiking with frequent sips of water.
  • Hydration: 3–4 liters per day; electrolytes recommended.
  • Altitude: We follow “climb high, sleep low” on Day 3 to aid acclimatization.
  • Monitoring: Guides check SpO₂ and symptoms daily.
  • Contingency: Emergency descent protocol and oxygen available if required.

How should I prepare for the climb?

Light cardio, pack training, and weekend hikes 6–8 weeks before departure build confidence and stamina.

How cold is the summit?

Expect temperatures from −7°C to −15°C (19°F to 5°F) with wind chill. Proper layering keeps you cozy under the stars.

What about toilets on the mountain?

Each camp has basic park toilets; a private portable toilet tent can be arranged for extra comfort.

What is the baggage limit?

Porters carry up to 15 kg. You keep a day pack with water, layers, snacks, and camera essentials.
